Clare 016

In the Netherlands, the cat eye era came to an end when Beatlemania started. This happened in early 1964 and the changes in society during the next five years were immense. These were exciting and to an extent, revolutionary years in my native Amsterdam. The changes in fashion echoed through in frame design as well although the real revolution would only start in 1967 with the arrival of larger frames. The new glasses of the mid 1960's were small and compact. Here Clare is showing a perfect example of this style which only lasted three or four years. Again, this was a welcome find at my early hunting grounds, the inexhaustible Waterlooplein flea market. The market still exists and Clare can testify to that, but it's entirely different from the way it was half a century ago.
