Glasses: Silhouette 1183, made in 1985
[L: +2.25; c+1.00 h / R: +2.50; c+1.50 h / bif add 2.25]
These large bifocals were acquired in the hospitable Welsh charity shop mentioned earlier on. The first owner of the glasses was a lady of German origin with an excellent, slightly extravagant taste for frames. The crate contained no less than five of her glasses, including two pairs of sunglasses. Monique tried the three regular glasses and she selected this blue pair by Silhouette, a real big name in the industry. Christian Dior and Silhouette were the absolute top brands in the 1970's and 1980's. Several years ago, the Silhouette company kindly met my request for the year of manufacture of two dozen Silhouette glasses in my collection. This enabled me to extrapolate the age of the other 80 Silhouette glasses in my collection. Unfortunately, the glasses shown here by Monique have lots of reflection in the lenses and this is the only of six photos that lent itself to an acceptable editing result.
