These tiny glasses were sent to me by Steve who runs a small glasses shop. The lenses are minus eleven so Leah would sometimes look over the glasses to re-establish eye contact with her photographer. Each time I see this portrait, the song "Hard times" runs through my head. Mary Black recorded the definitive version on her first solo LP in the 1980's. "Hard times" was written in 1854 in the USA but given Ireland's history, the song has become popular in Ireland as well. It's always a good sign when a portrait is linked with a song.
