Face à main were highly popular among the upper classes during the final part of the 19th century. The amazing thing about this face à main is that it's fitted with bifocal lenses, suggesting that their first owner used it frequently. Needless to say, it was impossible to keep one arm raised throughout the day but there was a code among the upper classes that full time wear should be avoided at all cost.
