Anna 037
This series in the Essilor half rim glasses is the first half of a little experiment in which the influence of prescription lenses is demonstrated. My project is not only about frames. Well before the day of the actual photo shoot, each model receives detailed information about what is expected from her. Some models with perfect eyesight are surprised when I ask them to measure their PD and nowadays my instructions include a phrase in which the PD is compared with dress size. Anna's reaction on my information and instructions was brief but priceless: "This is the longest instruction I ever had in my life". No doubt it was, but necessary. My project does not fit into any standard category of modelling.
During the photo shoot, it was interesting to see how Anna coped with the location and with blur created by the glasses with prescriptions for full time use. Moments when she seemed almost lost in the blur were followed by moments in which she regained more self assured looks. No doubt, models wearing prescription glasses in real life are familiar with the blur and this gives them an advantage over models blessed with perfect eyesight. The only way to have control over the situation is to rely on one's imagination and ability of introspection. Posing in front of a double mirror adds another subtle factor related to the axiom of control. Even in glasses with mild prescriptions, the model has to rely on her looks from a vantage point different than her self image in the mirror. From a psychology point of view, a photo shoot like this is more difficult than it seems at first sight. However, if it comes out well, the results are simply magic....
