Nowadays virtually extinct in the streets, myodisc glasses were a well known phenomenon in the 1950's and the first half of the 1960's. The arrival of the first contact lenses in 1967 gave high myopic people an alternative for glasses. As a result, sightings of people in myodisc glasses became increasingly rare.
