During the initial phase of its construction, the weekly progress at work could only be seen in the immediate surroundings of the tower. By the spring of 1888 however, the tower became visible from the bridges over the Seine, a mile away. Nicknamed "The young Lady of the Tower", she allowed and even encouraged photographers to portray her on the bridges, with the growing tower in the background.
