During the 1950's and early 1960's, the carrier lenses in myodisc glasses were plano. This is also the case in these modern Sheng Dian myodisc glasses. The carrier lenses in these large glasses are half an inch thick. As a result, the open side of each carrier lens catches the light. This explains the marked contrast at the rim of the two "bowls". Lots of light from the street around the model's left eye and lots of shade from the interior of the restaurant.
