Diane von Fürstenberg, formerly princess Diane of Fürstenberg, is a famous Belgian born American fashion designer, best known for her iconic wrap dress. During the 1980's, the couture house Von Fürstenberg also started its own glasses line with often marvelous results. My collection hosts several examples of their early work. Von Fürstenberg had the nice habit to give the name of a lady to each new series of glasses. The pair shown here to great effect by lovely Sonia is called "Elisabeth" and this can hardly be coincidental.
Elisabeth von Fürstenberg (b. 1767 - d. 1822) was born a princess of Thurn und Taxis (an independent state until the days of Bismarck) and she married her cousin, crown prince Karl Aloys zu Fürstenberg.
As far as I know, Sonia is not a descendant of royalty or nobility herself but I hereby declare her the Princess of Glasses!
