Iris 213
Viennaline had a bestseller in 1972 with this frame. Many lovely girls and women were seen sporting these glasses in the streets of my native Amsterdam. Many frames of the early 1970's were designed to be fitted with thick lenses for higher minus prescriptions. High index lenses did not exist in those days. Many frames were so large that even lenses of minus four or five were one centimeter thick at the edges. The Viennaline bestseller was clearly designed with mild prescriptions in mind and indeed, all the girls and women seen in these glasses had mild prescriptions. My collection hosts three or four examples of this frame and this is the only pair with identical lenses. These glasses were bought by a Dutch lady in her early forties and these were her first progressives.
