Iris 195 - 197
In the the early 1970's, black and white photography was gradually replaced by colour photography. However, black and white photography has an appeal of its own. Here are three examples of editing in black and white. Most portraits in these first series were edited in a style that was invented by Michael Orton in the early 1980's. Additional contrast was used in the upper and middle portrait to highlight the model's beautiful eyes. This style of editing is most effective when the background provides little visual information. These portraits were taken in the garden of my life partner Nel, with the curtains of her living room as background, creating the atmosphere of a studio setting.
