Leah 058

These green glasses by Invicta were acquired in one of the many charity shops in the Hastings area, some fifteen years ago. The arms of the glasses have the inscription "Delight eyes" and sure enough, Leah was delighted when she saw this portrait, putting it in her top five of absolute favourites. Part of the delight was caused by the magnification of her eyes behind the +4 lenses. Leah went on to comment that she would get glasses within a week and she hoped that these would enlarge her eyes rather than making them look smaller. Another factor of influence may have been the high, narrow shape of the frame which makes it ideal for models with a small PD. When I first saw this portrait, a well known jig from a 78 by the legendary uilleann piper Patsy Touhey (1865 - 1923) ran through my head. The tune is called "Maid on the green". So let's call this photo "Maid in the green" or "Maid behind the green".
