The 1970's were a revolutionary decade in the history of eyewear. All traditions went overboard and frame designers fully exploited their creativity. This was greatly facilitated by the invention of new materials which were suitable for large frames. These extravagant Saphira glasses are an excellent example of the new creativity. "Not for the fainthearted".... Again, the first owner of these glasses apparently liked them so much that she used them full time for about a decade. I came across the Saphira glasses at the "Waterlooplein" flea market in the second half of the 1980's, around the same time as the Neostyle and Venus glasses shown earlier on by Julia.
