Sometime during the second half of the 1980's, these stylish Elite glasses were a welcome find at the (then) inexhaustible "Waterlooplein" flea market in my native Amsterdam. Their condition was not the best, indicating that the first owner of the glasses used them constantly over a number of years. She probably liked these high, narrow glasses a lot. The lady chose to decorate one of the lenses with what may have been her initials (VS). It's the only pair in my collection with a decoration like this. Not exactly a practical decoration as it bars a part of the view, but original and nice. This tipped the balance and I paid the seller the princely price of two guilders. It's a pity that glasses can't speak. No doubt, some of them would have quite interesting life stories to tell. Perhaps even in French....
