Iris 041
From the early 1960's, Rodenstock gave the name of a girl to each new series of glasses. At some stage (probably late 1970's) they also launched a more expensive glasses line called "Exclusiv". Here lovely Iris is showing us an excellent example of the Exclusiv series. However, the funny thing is that this frame sold extremely well in its time. My collection hosts no less than four examples of this frame. It makes you wonder how exclusive the proud owners of these glasses felt after seeing many other ladies sporting "their own" pair.
The frame came in at least two sizes, indicating that Rodenstock was well aware that large frames did not suit every lady's face. I remember seeing many ladies sporting these glasses during the early 1980's, most of them middle aged or older. The younger generation went for the large frames and I am fairly certain that this frame was designed with riper ladies in mind. Be that as it may, Iris was not bothered by that problem - she simply liked these glasses that were made long before she was born.
