Maria 015

The first orange glasses appeared on the market in 1964, right after the cat eye era ended. Orange remained popular through the 1960's and disappeared from the shops around 1972, never to come back again. The first orange glasses were small and compact but the love summer of 1967 brought larger frames and this trend eventually culminated in the giant frames of the mid 1970's. Here Maria is posing in a pair of bifocals by Metzler, a well known company from Germany. These glasses were made around 1969. Their first owner was probably a lady in her fifties who liked to see everything crystal clear. Her prescription for long distance was only minimal and my guess is that she was annoyed by her readers.
