My collection hosts well over a hundred pairs made by the Rodenstock company from Germany and this is one of the earliest pairs. Note the color of the upper rim of the frame. This was a novelty around 1960 and it would remain quite popular until the mid 1960's. Rodenstock always kept their frame design on the safe side and their glasses were highly popular among clients wishing to follow the trends, avoiding extravaganza. The strong add (+3.50) in the circle shaped reading segment indicates that the first owner of the glasses used them for many years, only changing the lenses when her presbyopia progressed. Back in 1960, glasses were expensive and it was not unusual to keep the same pair in use for nearly a decade.
