Well chosen glasses can have the effect of shop windows, allowing the eyes to "speak" in a unique and flattering way, even through strong lenses through which the eyes look 30% smaller. It's all a matter of perspective, imagination and modification. In portraits like these, the lips seem enlarged so Sandra put up a big smile to show that an apparent handicap can be transformed into a source of attraction. It's a pity that opticians did not use photos like these to grace their shop windows in 1960. It might have given a boast to extremely shortsighted girls and women, showing them that there is nothing wrong with your looks if you wear your glasses with pride.
