Mother Juliana came into the picture during my email exchange with her daughter who mentioned that her photogenic Mom might be interested in joining the up coming photo shoot. This was a welcome idea as I had some previous experience in duo shoots, including a mother / daughter shoot. Juliana's mother is also called Juliana and I feared that this might lead to some confusion during the up tempo procedure of the photo shoot but looking back, there was no confusion when we started working.
The only problem arising during the preparations for the photo shoot was when the glasses prescription of both models was sent to me. Unlike her daughter, Mother Juliana has an uncommon prescription - hardly a spherical Rx but strong astigmatism (around 3.00) which would narrow down the options. A thorough search through my collection yielded a dozen glasses that came anywhere near her prescription but some of these might not match the model's rather wide PD (66) so I also packed some glasses with other prescriptions that might do no harm.
Here mother Juliana is posing in a striking pair made by Silhouette in 1981. The glasses gave her monovision as only one lens had the cylindrical strength and an axis that was fairly compatible. Fortunately, she found out that the glasses gave her fair eyesight. Working with mother Juliana enabled me to use a number of glasses that were not featured in any previous photo shoot. The Silhouette pair is a fine example.
