Leah 109

During the 1930's and early 1940's, long before their revival by Beatle John Lennon, small round frames without nose pads were "fashionable" - or at least seen everywhere.

A famous quote from the 1930's about glasses is from the American poet Dorothy Parker (1893 - 1967) who was quite shortsighted but never was seen wearing her glasses in public:
"Men seldom make passes
at girls with glasses"

Much of Parker's aversion against glasses may have derived from the fact that all glasses were unisex. The real fashion element in eyewear only started in the mid 1950's when cat eye glasses became popular.

However, if you take a good look at this fine portrait of Leah posing in celluloid glasses from the 1930's, many viewers will agree that there is nothing wrong with the model's looks. I can't find any flaws. Leah herself declared that she liked the way her eyes look enlarged in several of the glasses used during her photo shoot. With due respect, Dorothy Parker was wrong :).
