Colleen 043
Made in 1963 / 1964, these "Toxy" glasses by Rodenstock mark the beginning of a new era in frame design. They were among the first frames that had no trace of the cat eye style. The material and colour combination was new as well. The glasses were bought by a young lady with an excellent taste for glasses although she used them only when it was absolutely necessary. I made her acquaintance in 1996 and when she heard about my collection, she gave me all her old glasses. It was nice to follow the whims of fashion through the eyes of one lady. Later we went through all her old photos and this enabled me to put a year on each pair of glasses. She used the "Toxy" glasses until the early 1970's, replacing them by a pair made by Silhouette. She was a blonde, just like Colleen. Her choice for the Toxy glasses was all the more remarkable as all opticians gave the urgent advice that blondes should go for orange frames!
